Atreyu brought their “The Curse 20+1 Anniversary Tour” to the North Park Observatory in San Diego on December 10th. They’re celebrating the album, which many consider to be the band’s breakthrough, by playing it in its entirety plus some other fan favorites. Not only that, but this tour also included support from Zero 9:36 and Eighteen Visions!

Zero 9:36 was up first for the night! He was unfortunately sick but honestly, if he didn’t say anything, you would never know. He was still running back and fourth across that stage with so much energy and passion. Lead Singer of Atreyu, Brandon Saller, explained later in the show that Zero couldn’t talk that morning but still played the show. Zero just has so much passion and dedication that you can really feel through his performances, especially tonight. He just released his latest album, They Were Always Here, a couple days after this show on December 12th.

Up next was Eighteen Visions, a metalcore band from Orange County, CA  who reformed back in 2017. The band first established in late 1995 and are known for their heavy sound and dedicated straight edge lifestyle. Eighteen Visions broke up in April 2007 and had no communication with the public for the following decade until early 2017 when fans speculated about a reunion based on an Instagram post of the band members with the caption: “The Countdown Begins…”. They are also celebrating one of their albums on this tour, their similarly aged 2004 album Obsession.

I absolutely love Atreyu shows because they’re just so much fun and so random. Their on stage banter is hilarious and you really never know what's going to happen, especially with a huge anniversary to celebrate! What better way to celebrate than with some donuts? Guitarist Travis Miguel would just randomly throw donuts out to the crowd throughout their set. The first one he threw I thought he was just having a snack and then a fan wanted it or something, but then it kept happening. I wanna say he threw out probably 7 or 8? Apparently, according to the band, he will be coming out with a "fitness program" next year that includes lifting weights and eating donuts!

About halfway through their set during “Corseting”, the band played musical chairs and switched around, Brandon moved to drums, Drummer Kyle Rosa moved to Bass, and Bassist Porter McKnight moved to vocals. During another song, Brandon jumped off the stage, walked all through the crowd, greeting and high fiving people on the way, and made his way up to the bar. He took a shot and made his way back to the stage. Once the song was over, he thanked the bartender and said, “I know it was confusing but we figured it out!” Then at another point in the show, Porter jumped off the stage and went into the center of the pit. People just circled around him while he was singing. There's seriously no show like an Atreyu show!
