Motionless in White brought their Blood and Sweat Tour to The Kia Forum in Los Angeles! If you mean it, you make it, and Motionless definitely meant it! This is the biggest tour of the band's career, playing stadiums and arenas across the country. They’re even headlining one of the most iconic venues, Red Rocks! This tour is stacked all around with support from Static Dress, Fit For A King, and Lorna Shore.
Static Dress kicked off the night! Known for their distinct aesthetic, their music blends post-hardcore, screamo, and alternative rock. A majority of their setlist came from their most recent album, Injury Episode, released in May of this year.
Fit For A King was up next and came in hard by opening with “Backbreaker”, which features a 26 second long scream from lead singer Ryan Kirby! It still blows my mind every time I hear it. Bassist Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary is in the air more than he’s on the stage! It’s hard to take your eyes off of him. He is either in the air, spinning his bass guitar around him, or singing in the mic. They closed their set with “Witness The End” which features Chris Motionless. I was sort of hoping Chris would come out but I know he has to save his voice!
Lorna Shore also came out hard by opening with “To The Hellfire"! They just released their latest album, I Feel the Everblack Festering Within Me, in September of last year and most of the setlist consisted of songs off of it. They played “War Machine” with Nick Chance, who is also currently doing media for the band! This was my 20th time seeing Motionless in White and no I’ll never get sick of them! Every single show and tour is different, bringing in a new element and upping the game each time. Watching their stage production evolve over the years and adding dancers, Cherry Bombs, brings so much dimension to their sets. This tour is not only celebrating the release of their latest album, Decades, but also celebrating 20 years of the band! The setlist was a journey through every album released since 2010’s Creatures, with most songs coming off 2022’s Scoring The End of the World.
Los Angeles got a special surprise when Skylar Grey came out during “R.I.P”! She is absolutely stunning and the whole performance with the two of them was so mesmerizing to watch. Right after this, we get a little back stage video, watching Chris get his makeup touched up. Then the screen reads, “Put your sunglasses on now”. Chris Motionless has been talking about doing a cover of this one 80’s song for years now but never revealed the name of the song. The timing was right to do it on this album, so Chris finally got to do a cover of Corey Hart's “Sunglasses At Night”! I wish I was kidding when I say it’s the only song I’ve listened to since it came out, but it is. It’s just so well done and seeing everyone dancing with their sunglasses made it that much better. If you forgot your sunglasses, don’t fear, you could buy special Motionless in White sunglasses at merch!
Motionless is the type of band that celebrates Halloween all year round, as I'm sure most of us in the room do too. So even though it’s only July, we got a little Halloween Section of the set which featured a rare “Undead Ahead 2: The Tale of the Midnight Ride” and “Not My Type: Dead As Fuck 2”! During “Not My Type” they tossed a few inflated balls and threw out Halloween candy to the crowd which felt like a party!
Another special treat for the night was Ryan Kirby coming back out for “Slaughterhouse”! Hearing the crowd screaming the words and all the breakdown callouts throughout the night was INSANE. I was in awe their entire set, just so proud of these guys. I love watching them get their flowers after watching what they’ve built and put in over the years. Just like the fans giving them flowers, they give us flowers right back. They closed out their set with “Eternally Yours” throwing roses out into the crowd.
