We’re back again at our favorite San Diego venue, The Observatory North Park! Yes, I’m always raving about this place, because who doesn’t love free parking right across the street at the parking garage? If it’s your first time there, it can be a little confusing where to enter the venue. The box office is on the east side, but the entrance is on the south side, so you’ll walk right by the tour buses on your way in. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. It’s our #1 favorite San Diego venue.

I can’t always make it to see the opening band because of that day job thing that pays my rent, but I really try to get there on time for the first band because everyone starts somewhere and you might see that one band that you’ll add to your playlist and in a few years say I saw them as an opener. Opening this show was Exmortus, a progressive death metal band that formed in 2002 in Whittier, CA. Unfortunately, due to that obstacle that pays the bills, we missed their set. I was trying to get there, because I’ve seen them before and they are amazing. I do know they played five songs and were hanging out at merch greeting fans the rest of the show.

We caught the last few songs of Ov Sulfur. They are a Vegas based death metal band that started in 2020. They have one studio album The Burden Ov Faith released in 2023. The single "Befouler" of that album features guest vocalist Alex the Terrible from Slaughter to Prevail. We caught the last half of their set that was dark and heavy. Revocation, a death metal from Boston formed in 2000, was up next. They played an eight song setlist, dark and heavy. Stay tuned for the new album New Gods, New Masters release this September of this year.

Nekrogoblikon is a fun, quirky band, but the green guy can sing, too! They have quite a dedicated fan base, people painted themselves green or wore pointy ears. There was a dad with his two middle school age kids singing every word and dancing. I love seeing families at shows and seeing the proud parents watching their kids scream lyrics. I saw Nekrogloblikon in 2016 on the red carpet for NAIRMA during NAMM, but I’ve never seen them perform, it’s music and comedy. I don’t know how many times I heard the “Whale’s Vagina” reference, from the infamous movie Anchor Man that was based in San Diego. Also, talking about all the breweries in San Diego and how “IPA tastes like rancid buttholes”. They were fun, I’d go see them again! Their North American Tour has concluded but they will be touring Europe in September!
