Sleeping With Sirens brought their 'Ending In Itself' tour to the House of Blues Anaheim with support from Rain City Drive, Shyeye, and Hate It Here. This date was a late add on to the original tour announcement, which I’m so happy about because I really did not want to miss this tour! This show was great timing too because we were just up in Sacramento at Aftershock the night before. We were driving back down that day anyways, and since we live in San Diego, Anaheim is on our way home. We thought why not make a pit stop, get out of the car and stretch our legs, and go to another concert! Four days wasn’t quite long enough and we missed our people already! The drive took a little longer than expected so unfortunately we missed Shyeye and Hate It Here but made it just in time for Rain City Drive!
I always love seeing the Rain City Drive guys. Over the past few years I have quite literally traveled all over the country for them, seeing them now fourteen times in six different states. It’s been amazing watching them grow, from playing 200 cap rooms to now touring with Sleeping With Sirens, playing sold out shows every night! I’m so proud and happy for these guys, it’s very much deserved. They played their unreleased song “Slither” which comes out this Friday, October 9th! They played songs off each of their three albums including classic RCD songs like “Heavier” and “Talk to a Friend” and “newer” ones “Frozen” and “Waiting on You,” before closing out with "Medicate Me”.
We had just seen Sleeping with Sirens at Aftershock two days before this, so in a way felt like we were following the tour a bit. They came out with “Break Me Down” and the opening drums always kicks off the set with some extreme energy! There was a little silly moment during “Kick Me”. One of the lyrics right before the chorus is, “You don’t know shit, shit, shit, Don’t know a god damn thing about me”. The band stopped playing for a second after that and lead singer Kellin Quinn says, “When I was in high school, I weighed 150lbs and all the girls told me they liked me better as a friend”. Then the song kicked in after we learned some shit about Kellin!
Before they played “Better Off Dead”, Kellin told everyone put their arm around someone whether they're a friend or family, and if you don’t know them, ask permission first. He said, “I want you to say “Hey, I love you, I’m so happy you’re in my life, if you need anything, I got you, because that’s what fucking friendship is all about.”"It’s so beautiful seeing the healing and unifying effects that music has on us all. You are never alone.
This show also had a couple fun surprises with them live debuting “I’m Coming Home (Big Gulps)” which was released in September of this year and they also played “Free Now” live for the first time since 2016! They of course closed out the night with fan favorites, “If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn” and “If You Can’t Hang”. This was just opening night so there are still tons of dates to see the 'Ending In Itself' tour! Don’t miss it!
