Pierce The Veil Plays Largest Show of Their Career in Their Hometown
Pierce the Veil came back to their hometown San Diego to a sold out Petco Park to close out their year long “I Can’t Hear You” tour. They grew up in the local music scene here and It’s been amazing to watch them grow over the years playing Soma, House of Blues, Penchanga Arena, and now the biggest venue in San Diego, Petco Park!
The show wasn’t the only part of this homecoming though. Local San Diego businesses also came together to make this a really fun and special experience for everyone. Prince St. Pizza brought the heat with a spicy pepperoni pizza called La Chona. It came in a custom Pierce The Veil pizza box that we may or may have not already hung up on our wall. If you bought a slice and signed up for their rewards, you were entered in a contest to win tickets to the show! James Coffee had some exclusive merch, PTV themed coffee, and were also giving away tickets. Buju Tattoo had a Pierce the Veil Flash Event the day before the show and Stone Brewing brewed up an exclusive Pierce the Veil IPA. We made a stop at the PTVxSD immersive pop-up in Gallagher Square, which featured complementary flash tattoos, hair tinsel, nail art, exclusive merch, and fun little photo ups. We may or may not have waited four hours in line to get into the event the day before. We heard flash tattoos and knew we had to at least try to get one! We thought we got there early but by the time we got there, the line was already wrapped around the building and down the corner. We heard some people even got there at 6am! We had such a blast celebrating the band's homecoming throughout the week and supporting local business! Pierce The Veil truly took over the city!
This is the biggest venue the band has ever played and the biggest crowd they’ve ever played for. They kicked off their set with a mariachi trumpet intro for “May These Noises Startle You in Your Sleep Tonight” which was gorgeous. The echo throughout the stadium gave me chills. The band rose up to the stage to finish the intro and exploded, literally, right into “Hell Above” with a firework pop. I loved the incorporation of their, and San Diego's, culture throughout the show. A couple songs later, they had dancers during “Bulls In The Bronx” that wore folklorico-like skirts.
I’ve been to a few sold out concerts at Petco Park, but I’ve never heard a crowd quite like this one. This crowd was LOUD. Screaming every single word of every single song. Lead singer Vic Fuentes said “We’ve been traveling the globe to prove once and for all, that Pierce The Veil has the loudest fans in the entire fucking universe,” and I think San Diego definitely proved it this night! I had tears in my eyes, for multiple reasons, throughout the whole show just because I was so happy and proud of these guys. I love seeing a scene that was so unseen/pushed to the side for so long, headline the biggest stadium in their own city. Vic Fuentes dedicated “Emergency Contact” to his wife and kids who were in attendance. They had a bunch of fire during “Pass The Nirvana” and the crowd screaming “I Can’t Hear You!” was so insane that I'm pretty sure all of San Diego county could actually hear us!
They closed out the night with a firework show after “King For A Day”. This was such an amazing night and we can’t wait to see these guys again in just a couple weeks up at Aftershock!
