Iration returned to Gallagher Square at Petco Park in downtown San Diego on June 25th as part of their Where It All Began Tour with support from Tribal Seeds, Arikal Sound System, and Tunnel Vision. Gallagher Square sits right behind the outfield at Petco Park. We love this venue for so many reasons. With a 6000 capacity that is all GA, you can be up close, sit back on the grass hill, or hang out on the terrace at a table next to the Tony Gwynn statue. You can see the Sycuan Stage from every spot and the sound is great! It is home of the Padres, so you can get a souvenir cup with your beer and ballpark hotdog. It really is the perfect venue for a summer concert right in the heart of San Diego.

We found a spot on the grass on the hill (don’t think “lawn seat”, this is closer) for Artikal Sound System. Based in South Florida founded in 2012, Artikal Sound System aka A.S.S., kicked off their set with “Self Sabotage”. Members of the band were showing off some team spirit as Lead singer Logan Rex came out dressed in a Padres jersey and Drummer Adam Kampf was wearing a Knicks jersey. Logan was engaging with the crowd asking if anyone had ever seen them live before with many fans raising their hands, and then asked if everyone knows the other three bands but no idea who they are, that would be us. Logan made a comment saying that you may not know any of their songs, but she knew everyone would know their next one. They played a rendition of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” which was a lot of fun! Especially hearing all the guys sing, “I’m just a girl!”

Tribal Seeds was up next and got a big hometown welcome when they hit the stage. The band was formed in 2005 by the Jacobo brothers, lead singer Steven and keyboardist Tony-Ray. The group also released their debut album, Youth Rebellion, that same year and it was the first of many to be released on the groups own label. They played a little bit of everything, playing at least one song of each of their albums, but played the most off their 2024 release, Ancient Blood.

Iration kicked off their Where It All Began Tour in early May of this year, and this stop at Petco Park was nearly at the end of this run. Over their almost two decade long career, they’ve racked up over a billion streams and multiple number one reggae albums. Iration members are Hawaiian born, but California raised (my two favorite places), so they have a beautiful blend of Hawaiian/California reggae sound. They opened with “Already Gold” from their self-titled album, released in 2018. They played new songs off Where It All Began like “My Kinda Vibe,” “State of Mind,” “Shoyu”, and “Roots,” as well as old songs including “Automatic,” “Summer Nights,” and their Gold-certified classic “Time Bomb.”
