Slaughter to Prevail came to Soma San Diego as part of their North American tour with support from Rev3rent. We’ve seen these guys in larger crowds at festivals and stadiums before but when we heard of the opportunity to see them in a more intimate venue like Soma, we knew we had to be there. There's not a lot of shows we show up early for and wait for doors to open, but this was one of them. Most people will line up to run to the barricade, but we line up to run to the wall! One of the walls at Soma has a platform about 3 feet up. It's super close to the stage and is the same level. Perfect for mosh pit and rest of crowd viewing. With how crazy Slaughter to Prevail crowds get we knew we definitely needed that wall spot.

Waiting for doors to open outside the venue was hilarious. We were standing right next to this group of friends who were bantering with the security staff. The guy was talking about pat downs and said something about his ankle monitor. We all thought he was joking until he rolled up his cuff and behold, an ankle monitor. Nothing is stopping that guy. We also noticed there was a “Sorry, no masks will be allowed tonight” sign at security. After 8 Slaughter to Prevail shows, this was my first time not seeing the crowd in masks! I saw before we walked in that they were selling Slaughter masks at merch, but by the time we got in they were taking down.

Once we got into the venue, wall spot secured, we were standing right next to us was the Lopez family! Gideon (4) and Brian (5) were attending their first ever concert and they were so excited to see one of their favorite artists, Slaughter to Prevail! I wish I was that cool at their age! As the anticipation was building they kept saying “Where’s Alex!”

Rising Deathcore band, Rev3rent, got the night started. Originally formed in Apple Valley, CA in 2024 and they are not wasting any time getting started. Being a relatively new band to the scene, They have been blowing up recently and are set to release their debut album, “She Let the World Run Rampant”, on October 30th through Deep Love Recordings. Lead singer Josh Bailey Guard is only 17 years old and has some absolutely insane talent for his age. One of the guitar players was also playing in flip flops which is iconic.

Slaughter to Prevail came out in their iconic masks and went straight into “Boneyards.” During "Viking", right before the breakdown, Alex asked the crowd to be totally silent. He lowers the mic and screams without it. His vocals are so insane that you could hear him even if you were standing in the very back of the room. I’ve seen him do this live many times at this point and I am still blown away every single time. The man needs no mic! Alex took a moment in the middle of their set to give us a motivational speech/words of encouragement. He said that he has gotten everything he has ever wanted in life because of us fans and is super grateful. He then went on to say that there is so much hatred and divide in the world but there is still hope. If you want to change the world, you have to change yourself first.

This was seriously an ALL ages show. There was another little girl about 3 rows back from the stage, front and center. Alex pointed her out, she was only 2! During one of their songs, a crowd surfer had gone right over her. Alex stopped screaming and you could see him freak out for a second. Then once he saw she was okay, you could see this big sign of relief. After that song he stated, “let’s make this a no crowd surf area, please”. People actually listened and created a new path around her! They then closed out their set with “Conflict”.
