Not many times in life do you get to witness the rise of an icon in real time. With a sold-out American tour, the success of his latest album, Idols, and an accompanying documentary, Yungblud: Are You Ready, Boy?, Yungblud is that next idol. He came to the North Park Observatory in San Diego on August 24th as the second stop on his Idols Tour with support from Sawyer Hill.
This was kind of a full circle moment for me because I saw him in this same venue in 2019. That was my first introduction to Yungblud and I was instantly enamored by his energy and stage presence. I had only known a couple of his songs and didn't know a thing about him at the time. From start to finish, the energy was HIGH! He was running back in fourth on stage, jumping, and dancing all night. He was so grateful the entire show, the smile never left his face, and there were even a couple tears of happiness. This was the first concert to ever make my ears literally bleed because his fans are so loud! At the end of the show he came out to merch, took photos and had whole conversations with as many people as he could. This was also my last concert before the covid shut down so it made that show so much more special.
Flash forward to 2021, I saw him again at the Whiskey A Go Go when he did a free pop up show. Fittingly enough, this was also my first show back from the lockdown. I camped out overnight on Sunset Blvd with my friends and we were probably 4th in line. He came and surprised us all at 1 am, signed everyone's memorabilia and took photos saying he can’t wait to see us all tomorrow. Once it was show time, it was right back to that same energy in 2019. That room was filled with so much love and his ability to unite us together is insane. He live debuted “Fleabag” this night and we all got to hear it not just once, but twice! They were filming the live music video for the song, and if you look closely you’ll see me cause Yungblud literally laid right on top of me! After the show, he said whoever couldn't get into the show, meet him outside and he’ll play an acoustic song. He then walked the crowd up to the street to The Rainbow, again signing everything for people and taking photos. I had a little mini conversation with him which somehow got caught on TMZ. So that was my little 10 seconds of fame.
Now in 2025, he has really blown up, especially after he opened for Ozzy Osbourne during his final show, Back to Beginning, and sang a gut wrenching cover of “Changes”. Back to the Beginning had a stacked line up including legends like Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, and many many more, and Yungblud definitely had a stand out performance.
Long story long, 6 years later, he is still that same guy I saw back then. We seriously made the right person famous because he is so genuine and loves so deeply. He makes sure everyone is seen and heard. There's just something about him and his energy that makes him different from the rest.
This show will definitely go down as a show I'll remember forever. Not just because of the show itself, but the energy in that room. It is something unexplainable. He played his cover of “Changes” at this show and hearing the whole crowd scream, “I’m going through changes” in unison was so beautiful and an emotional high. I felt so united with everyone in that room and it was an absolutely powerful moment. I bawled my eyes out the entire song.
After the show, he walked out the stage door, and once again, met as many people as he could. We were up in the parking lot and had a birds eye view of the scene. We met a girl who had written a book that was inspired by one of his songs and all she wanted was to get it signed by him. I was so happy for her watching it get signed!
Pretty soon he's going to be playing stadiums and arenas and I know he will still go out and connect with as many people as he can afterwards. Last year, Yungblud created BludFest. His own festival that focuses on individuality and connections with others. “No pretentious nonsense, no corporate bollocks—just raw, unfiltered creativity, music, and community. It's not just about the music (although we've got some killer artists lined up). It's about the connection. The feeling of being part of something electric and unforgettable,” as stated on the BludFest website.
Ozzy Osbourne told Yungblud to conquer America, and that's just what he’s doing. Make sure you don’t miss the Idols Tour because it is truly one of a kind and it’s going to be THAT tour you look back on years from now.
