311 and Dirty Heads brought their “So Glad You Made It” tour to North Island Credit Union Amphitheater in San Diego. This was the perfect pairing, built for a SoCal summer night! For nearly two decades, these two bands have been touring together. Starting back in 2007, Dirty Heads opened for 311 at Red Rocks Amphitheater, and over the years the two have shared a bill a few other times. The two bands have reunited once again for a North American tour but this time for a co-headlining run. The name of the tour comes from a Dirty Heads song of the same name that features 311 frontman Nick Hexum. This tour also has support from Atmosphere and Rome, making it a bill where hip hop, reggae, ska, alternative rock, and hip hop all blend together.

Rome, best known for his time playing with Sublime from 2009 until 2024, was up first! He launched his solo career after stepping down as the frontman of Sublime with Rome at the end of 2024. He then moved to Nashville and pivoted his sound, blending soul, folk, and rootsy acoustic pop. He mixed his original material in with some familiar Sublime with Rome favorites, including “PCH,” “Take It or Leave It,” and a Sublime classic “Badfish.” He said the first time he listened to Sublime was right here in San Diego, specifically San Ysidro. He closed out his set with “New Me” which he stated is his favorite song he has written and he was going to try not to cry during it.

Atmosphere is an American hip-hop duo from Minneapolis, Minnesota, consisting of rapper Slug and DJ/producer Ant. All their songs are deeply personal touching on topics like addiction, insecurities, relationships, family, and the other not so sunshiny parts of life. You could really feel his energy and his passion through his whole set. During one of his song he said, “Fuck Trump, Fuck Netanyahu” and had a “Fuck Ice” sign come up on his screen. The crowd cheered and I knew we were in the right place and with the right people.

I love co-headliners because it’s always a fun little surprise seeing who is actually closing out the night. The crew started setting up the stage, took the cover off the drum kit, and revealed the Dirty Heads drum head! Dirty Heads just released their latest album, 7 Seas, in June of this year, which was perfect timing for summer. They opened their set with the title track off their new album. They went through fan favorites, like “Vacation”,  “My Sweet Summer”, and did a cover of Joe Walsh's “Life's Been Good,”. We got a special treat when Rome came back out for “Lay Me Down”.

311 is celebrating 36 years! They came out wasting no time, going straight into “Beautiful Disaster”, “All Mixed Up”, and “Come Original”. A little over halfway through the set they did their iconic “Applied Science,” drum section. It includes an extended drum solo from Chad Sexton with the rest of the band joining in for their famous synchronized percussion. All five members flawlessly tossed drumsticks to one another, over their heads and side to side. A fun bonus to this was they brought out a bunch of people on stage with glowing foam sticks. With that and the crowds flashlights up, it felt like a party! They closed out with “Down”.

There's only about a week left of the “So Glad You Made It” tour so don’t miss out!
